About the artist Maria Maddocks
Maria has always been interested in drawing and making things, and as a child was always making handmade cards and gifts for friends and family. Graduating in 1999, she has worked as a freelance illustrator ever since, mainly for the children's publishing market.
Maria's quirky illustrations are an ensemble of painted, printed and found materials collaged together. Maria uses bright colours and patterned materials, inspired by 1950s fabrics and ceramics. She particularly enjoys illustrating children and animal characters, creating their personalities, and making them come alive on the page.
Maria has illustrated a number of titles for Ladybird books and Piggy Toes Press. She has produced illustrations for Egmont books, Caterpillar books and illustrations for the children's educational market.
